Do you remember where I stopped from my last Newsletter, if you have not seen it, check here
Now that we are all on the same page, let’s go. I promised to share a few things about reading books.
Why do you read? Are you reading so you’d have brag rights or reading to truly know and become better? When you read to show off, you’d have head knowledge but it’s harder for you to apply all you learn.
Choosing the right Books. No doubt, readers irrespective of their choice of book genres are better at their use of words in communicating verbally and in writing. They have a better command of the language they read. But you have to choose your books to personal relevance, this does not limit you from exploring through genres. Make sure you feed your mind with healthy books. Some books are not healthy for people depending on various reasons which could be Age, Spiritual Stamina, etc.
Choose the reading pattern that works for you. Some people read with background music; they can read in public transport vehicles while some can’t concentrate without a pin-drop silence. Do you love reading at a stretch or do you read in bits? Do you tend to lose the author’s line of thought when you leave the book and come back to it next time? Are you into hardcopy books or e-books? Try to understand these things and do what works for you.
Set reading goals. Write it down, have planners, have an accountability system, keep book reading streaks, etc.
“How much” Versus “How well”. In as much as it’s good to read books and set goals. It’s possible to be in a hurry to meet your reading goals and in the process lose the true essence of reading. It’s okay to dwell on a book for long, it’s better to read five books well than read Twenty books without any impact. Try as much as possible to maintain a healthy balance between Quantity and Quality when it comes to reading.
There are other things to read. I’ve heard someone say, that we all read but we read different things, some of these things might not be the most appropriate of things to read but you could read inspiring social media posts, Articles, newsletters, Magazines, etc.
Next time, I will be writing to you about the quest for Wisdom in the journey of Personal Development...
Do well to share!
I think I need to work on my reading pattern . Thanks Miss. Akanbi
